SCHOOL PROCEDURES FOR SWINE-FLU PANDEMIC IN TENBY

Please find below the procedures and guidelines that will be implemented in the event of a severe outbreak in the vicinity.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITY

  • Ensure that the school has the correct contact (phone/address) details
  • Watch out for early symptoms of the flu – sneezing, coughing, feeling unwell
  • Seek medical advice if your child displays flu-like symptoms
  • DO NOT send your child to school if you are in any doubt
  • Insist on increased personal hygiene routines at home: teach and encourage your child/ren to wash hands using soap and water; cover their mouth when sneezing or coughing – using a tissue is good; throw dirty tissues away quickly into bins
  • Avoid direct contact with the school – please phone or e-mail us
  • Listen for news on local radio and/or e-portal (school’s web-site)

THE SCHOOL’S RESPONSIBILITY

  • The school will remain open for as long as possible; there may be some changes to the normal routines in order to ensure that pupils have adequate supervision and care.
  • Pupils may have to bring sandwiches, or the school may run short sessions (up to dinner-time) in the event of the school kitchen being closed; this would also affect Breakfast Club which would be closed for the same period of time.
  • Educate pupils on personal hygiene within school: washing hands thoroughly throughout the day; covering mouth when sneezing or coughing; disposing of tissues appropriately; no sharing of pens, pencils etc…
  • If pupils display flu-like symptoms at school, parents will be contacted straight away for them to collect their child/ren from school. Pupils displaying flu-like symptoms will be isolated until the parents arrive.
  • Parents will be contacted via phone if the any situation reaches crisis level
  • Consider practical ways of keeping children’s learning going if the school is closed for a period of time; this could be achieved through a computer link or the e-portal.
  • Launch the new school website through the e-portal and ensure that all pupils have an e-portal address for use during school closure. This will enable children to access work and to make contact with their teacher through the e-portal.
  • Cleaning of the school premises to be thorough with anti-viral cleaning products.

Please fill in the sheet attached  for us to ensure records are up to date and return to school as soon as possible.
